What is a UUID?

A UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) is a 128-bit number used to identify information in computer systems. The term GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) is also widely used, typically in Microsoft systems. The chance of checking two randomly generated UUIDs is negligible.
